The Gross National Debt

Fiscal Responsibility

I want to see more fiscal responsibility in Congress. It is not enough to talk about transparency, but we also need to be responsible for the decisions that we are making today. It is not only ethically to do so, but it is also a moral imperative that we behave in a manner that will preserve the wealth of the nation for future generations.

America First

There are so many Americans here at home in need of help, but yet we spend billions of dollars helping others abroad. With the exception of the Middle East, and any other worthy humanitarian causes around the world, it is imperative that we question our leaders on how the taxpayer’s money is being utilized.

Voice of the People

I want to be the voice of those who can not speak for themselves. I want to speak for those who otherwise would not be counted.

Jobs Based Strategy

In order for American workers to be fully employed, we need to focus on creating 10 million new jobs. Only a jobs-based strategy can maintain our standard of living, and enable us to project our leadership around the world. This strategy, along with a reinvigorated manufac-turing sector, can produce enough wealth to pay off our new debts and President’s Bush’s debt legacy.

Nationalized Healtcare

America desperately needs real change in our health system. But we will never get to that, if we can't get beyond this debate over government-run healthcare. A system that encourages competition, choice, and individual control will produce the health system we all want. To truly bring down costs and expand coverage we need to build a bipartisan agreement focused on the following:

● Improving individual health by incentivizing prevention, wellness and early health.

● Giving doctors and hospitals incentives to deliver high-quality care through fair and proper payments.

● Reforming public programs like Medicare and Medicaid to root out fraud, cut waste and reward quality.

Please read the report from the Center for Health Transformation. This approach will improve individual health, lower costs and deliver the best possible care.

Job Creation

We need to create jobs in our home state, where we need them the most. We should promote job fairs that will bring together the most comprehensive network of employers & job seekers, and provide incentives to the employers for every job that is created here in America. We also need to examine our laws, to ensure that these regulations that are in existence do not hamper job growth in our district.

Congressman Wexler Resigns

Yesterday news broke of the impending resignation of U.S. Representative Robert Wexler. Today, Wexler officially made his announcement.

“Today, I am announcing that I will be accepting the position of president of the Center for Middle East Peace and will leave Congress effective in January of 2010”, Wexler states from his website. “My one regret is that I will be unable to complete my current term in office, but I truly believe there is no time to waste.”

Congressional District 19, Wexler’s district, is comprised of sections from both Palm Beach and Broward Counties. It is a heavily democratic area which some say will lead to a heated Democratic Primary.

Jose Ruiz for Congress

My name is Jose Ruiz, and I am running for Congress in 2010 for the Democratic ticket. The reason I decided to run for congress is because I have a moral obligation as a father, husband, brother, and friend to protect the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I want my children to have the foundation of a solid education which would enable them to someday compete in the global markets. Likewise, my in-laws should be able to purchase their medication and be treated when needed without breaking the bank. Unfortunately, my friends and neighbors should not have to suffer the loss of their home values due to greedy bankers and unscrupulous investors.

Clearly, during these most difficult times in our Nation's history, most in Washington do not relate to those who elected them to start with. There is a real disconnect between the Washington politicians, and politics for us in our home state. Many have lost their jobs, their homes, their lifelong savings, and to this day I have not seen help "trickle" down to those in need. We have serious problems here in Florida District 19, and we need solutions to these problems.

I care about what is happening in my community and am proud to call Lake Worth, Florida my home. If you are looking for an honest and genuine person to represent the interests of our community you need not look any further. I am asking you to support me in anyway you can whether it be financial, volunteering for the campaign, or sponsoring an event. Let's send these politicians in Washington a clear message that we are all tired. Tired of politics as usual, tired of a do-nothing Congress, tired of bi-partisan politics, tired of wasting the taxpayer's money, and tired of pork barrel and sweeteners intended to benefit a politician, in return for their political support.

"If elected to Congress, it would be a great honor for me to donate half my salary back to my community”.  I am not a wealthy man, and I work very hard to support my family. However, I want to give back to my community not only financially but through volunteer work. It is time we start working on the real issues at hand, like the loss of home values, high unemployment, and education.  I would like to challenge those who are vying for the position in Congress to donate at least half of their annual income back to the community.  Talk is cheap, and we need politicians to put their money where their mouths are.”

Democrat
Pro-Choice, but against partial birth abortions.
I am for public schooling, private schooling, home-schooling, and the FL virtual school. All of the above are excellent choices, and it is up to the parents to decide what is best for their own children.
I believe in a free market economy.
Against any form of bailouts.
We need an immigration reform bill that makes sense and protects the homeland.
I stand for a balanced budget amendment
We need a balance between the secular and religious beliefs. Our nation was founded around Judeo-Christian values, and it is important that we don’t loose our identity as a nation.
Fiscally Responsible
I want to eliminate earmarks, pork barrel spending, and pet projects, initiated by either party.
I believe taxes are unfair, and are already too high.
Pro-Guns & for the protection of our Constitutional 2nd Amendment rights.
Against an expansion in Troops in Afghanistan without some clear exit strategy. I feel that the return on investment is too low, considering the costs and longevity of going to war. I believe we should be training the Afghans forces to defend themselves, just like we did in Iraq.
A job based strategy, is the only way we can ensure the nation’s prosperity for future generations.
I am opposed to Congress multi-trillion dollar spending plans to stimulate the economy. I feel that our Congress has an ethical responsibility to its taxpayers, and most of the proposals are "too" costly, and can potentially cause more harm than good.
I live in FL District 19 - Lake Worth, FL
Not just Free Trade, but also Fair Trade – I have a real problem with China’s trade deficit with the US.
America First Values – We must put American needs first, when we evaluate how we are going to be spending the taxpayer's monies.
I believe that Congressional term limits are necessary to ensure and promote America's best interest.
Against foreign economic assistance unless there is a real return on investment, with the exception of worthy humanitarian causes around the world.
I believe in a strong military force so that we can protect our homeland against terrorist acts, and rogue nations that threaten our way of life.

America-Israel Relations

The United States of America is the only country in history to have defined itself as Judeo-Christian. Historically, America has differed from Christian countries in Europe in at least two important ways. One is that the Christians who founded America saw themselves as heirs to the Hebrew Bible. And even more importantly, they strongly identified with the Jews. The consequences included a strong Hebrew Bible view of the world - meaning, in part, a strong sense of fighting for earthly justice, an emphasis on laws, a belief in a judging, as well as a loving and forgiving. This accounts for the mission that Americans have uniquely felt called to spread liberty in the world. This sense of mission is why more Americans have died for the liberty of others than any other nation's soldiers.

Cost of Living Adjustment

Last week, for the first time since the 1070’s, the Social Security Administration announced that it would not have a cost of living adjustment (COLA) in 2010.  This announcement will affect millions of seniors nationwide. In addition, premiums for the Medicare monthly prescription program are expected to increase causing a burden for others. Read more

Media Bias

When I initially decided to launch my campaign I held certain premises. In my mind, I believed “anyone” could run for office and stand at least a small of chance of being elected. Although I was aware of media bias, I was not aware to the extent of control.

The media creates this superficial personality of a politician and then goes forward to sell the product to the American people.  Ironically, it is not this perfectly created politician, but often the other “flawed” candidate who has something to really say about the issues.  It is the candidate who can really relate to the people, but is never given a chance because he cannot compete with the perfect sales pitch.

Unfortunately, the media has so much control that it cannot be unbiased when it comes to politics.  The media attempts to control every aspect of our lives from telling us what to think or buy, to politics and who we should vote for. Read more

The road ahead...

Fiscal Responsibility

The nation's economic future and fiscal responsibility are directly linked. There is a tie between budget deficits today and what society can enjoy tomorrow. Eliminating the deficit is an important first step. The larger challenge, however, is to reform our age-related entitlement programs, which are projected to grow at an unsustainable rate as the population ages. Facing up to both the short and long-term fiscal challenges will help put the nation on a path to lasting prosperity and a rising standard of living. If, on the other hand, we fail to quickly address the growing imbalance between federal commitments and available revenues, we will squander the only opportunity to get our finances in order before the aging of America makes our fiscal situation far more difficult. Doing so would be to ignore every principle of public finance, generational equity, and long-term economic stewardship.

Israeli Security Concerns

The security of Israel is paramount to the security of our nation. The Jewish contribution in the U.S. to religion, science, literature, music, medicine, finance, philosophy, and entertainment has made this country what it is today. However, Israel's security must be safeguarded in the coming talks between the Israelis and Palestinians. Palestinians must acknowledge Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state, and make a good-faith effort to stop terrorism so that higher level negotiations can ensue. During, the last eight years of the Bush administration we were so focused on our military activities in Iraq and Afghanistan, that we have not really used diplomacy to advance the interest of the Jewish State.

I believe that we have to work with our allies to secure a permanent two-state solution that is durable and permanent. A new peace process, that engages the Middle East in a way never seen before. One which guarantees the existence of Israel, and addresses the security concerns of both parties. The International community needs to guarantee the security of Israel, and insist on a Palestinian demilitarized zone as the only means to secure a two-state status. We need to focus in bringing security, and the much needed development to the region.

In order to accomplish this feat, we need to engage Syria and Lebanon into the peace process as well. There is no viable peace process, unless all the parties involved sit down to resolve this crisis. The Jewish people are good, kind hearted human beings who want peace, but are also not afraid to fight militarily if necessary. We need to make this a priority for this new administration, and with your support, I will be honored to fight in the U.S. Congress and abroad for the right of Israel to exist.
